Cassia/Cinnamon Bark

Scientific Name:  Cinnamomum cassia

Country of Origin:  China

Synonyms:  C. aromaticum, Laurus cassia, Chinese cinnamon, false cinnamon, cassia cinnamon, cassia lignea

Plant Family:  Lauraceae

Plant Parts Used:  Bark, twigs and stalks, leaves.

Extraction Method:  1:  by steam distillation from the leaves and 2:  by water distillation from the bark, leaves, twigs and stalks.

Physical Characteristics:  Leaf oil is brownish yellow (the rectified oil is pale yellow), Bark oil is a dark brown liquid 

Dominant Note:  Base

Aroma:  spicy sweet woodsy aroma.

Main Constituents:  Leaf and Bark oil contain mainly cinnamic aldehyde (75-90 per cent) with some methyl eugenol, salicylaldehyde, and methylsalicylaldehyde.

Blends With:  Cedarwood, Clove Bud, Frankincense, Lavender, Lemon, Wild Orange, and Ylang.
